In the video above, check out this match race of two bone-stock Chevy top dogs, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 vs 2017 Corvette Z06 from a 40 mph roll. Both cars use basically the same 6.2-liter, 650-hp V8, but they’re quite different in other ways, so who’s your money on?
If you look/listen closely, the driver of the Corvette Z06 clearly missed a shift. Based on this, with both drivers being equal, the C7 Z06 should best the new ZL1 by at least a few car lengths in our opinion.
As noted by Road & Track, “The Z06 initially pulls away from the ZL1, but a tricky second-to-third shift swings things back in the Camaro’s favor. Eventually, the Z06 regains its lead on the Camaro, but never manages to pull out much of an edge before the quarter-mile passes. This is somewhat surprising given the roughly 359-lb weight difference between the two.”
Regardless of the outcome, this race proves what we have been saying all along, for the money the new Camaro ZL1 is the sports car bargain of the decade.
