Watch the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 set a Ridiculously fast Nurburgring time
Test Drive
We knew the all-new 650-HP Camaro ZL1 was going to be a big improvement over it’s predecessor, and after putting up a Ring’ lap time 11.67 seconds faster than the 5th-gen ZL1, we now have all the confirmation we ever needed.
The 10-speed auto red-rocket automatic ZL1 completed one lap of the Nurburgring in 7:29.60, but don’t take our word for it, watch the video above.
Piloting the ZL1 was Camaro ride and handling engineer Drew Cattell, and if you watch closely you’ll notice he leaves the car in full automatic mode for the whole lap. That’s right, he never touches the paddles once giving us a glimpse of how good this transmission is. The good news is you can still get the ZL1 with a six-speed manual, don’t panic.
“To be almost 12 seconds quicker than the 5th-Generation ZL1 is a testament to the advanced design and technology of the new ZL1,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “From the improved aerodynamics, mass reduction and 650-horsepower LT4 to the Magnetic Ride Control, electronic limited-slip differential and Custom Launch Control, the ZL1 was designed to take on the world’s most challenging track, making it right at home on any track, road or drag strip anywhere.”
The new ZL1 shares its supercharged V8 with big brother Corvette Z06, and has a base price of $62,000.
We told you this thing was a bargain!
PS- A little cherry on top here is the new Camaro ZL1 bested the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R‘s run by 3.0 seconds, try to smile to wide Camaro fans.
