Turbo GMC Canyon redefines the simplicity of sport trucks

Sport trucks, unite! This GMC Canyon packs a turbo and a wicked little stance: lowered ever so tastefully, it looks awesome. Credit goes to the owner, Matt Ochoa, who kept the inline-five engine instead of going the LSx swap. Or, even a Duramax.

Ochoa, as DRIVE’s Matt Farah tells us, made money flipping burgers at In-N-Out to build this truck. Of course, Farah has his doubts—after reading the parts list, he said: “why would anyone put so much time and so much money into a GMC Canyon?” Then, he actually drives it.

“Once boost kicks in, yes, it is fast,” he later says. According to the owner, it will run a 12.6 quarter mile. 335 rear-wheel horsepower makes sure of that. The truck is relatively light, at around 3,500 pounds, so it’s all down to gearing and tires and waiting—just waiting—for that boost to kick in.
