ZR1 powered ICON 48′ Buick Super Convertible is nothing short of awesome
Custom
We love just about everything that ICON founder Jonathan Ward comes up with. Be it his FJ, Bronco, or thriftmaster creations, they are all impeccably crafted versatile machines, that are all on our “Do Want” list.
Ward’s “Derelict” series was introduced a few years back, and since then he has saved quite a few amazing pieces of Americana that seemed destined for the scrapper. Each Derelict made has it’s unique rust-like patina covered body, packed full of modern running gear and horsepower, then bolted on to an incredibly capable custom chassis. These powerful machines are the definition of a “sleeper” in it’s purist form.
In the video above, Ward stops by Leno’s famous garage with his latest creation, a 1948 Buick Super Convertible that has been given the full ICON treatment. Fitted with a Corvette LS9 engine, the reinvigorated old-timer now makes 700HP, rides on an Art Morrison chassis, and as Jay demonstrates is capable of laying down some serious rubber.
Imagine if Ward was around when “Grease” was looking for movie cars!
