Tow Challenge: GMC Canyon Duramax takes on V8 powered Ford F-150
Test Drive
Here’s an unusual mashup: The team at TFL truck pit a fullsize, 5-liter V8 Ford F-150 vs. a midsize GMC Canyon fitted with the 2.8-liter Duramax in a real-world towing challenge. So what’s the better fuel efficient towing truck, the half-ton or the fullsize?
The 2016 Ford F-150 Lariat edition features a 5.0L V8 that makes 385hp and 387 lb-ft of torque, with a 355 axle ready for some serious towing.
The 2016 GMC Canyon features a “baby” Duramax, 2.8L 4-cylinder with only 181hp under the hood, but it throws down an impressive 369 lb-ft of torque, with a 342 axle ready to tow your house up a hill!
Sure it seems like an odd mashup, but the midsize Canyon proves it can not only compete against the big boys, but do better in a myriad of real world tests.
